It is with tremendous
pleasure that the people who have worked for goodwill exchanges between
Japan and Slovenia have come together to form the Japan-Slovenia Friendship
Society. The Republic of Slovenia, located in central Europe, surrounded
by Austria, Italy, and Hungary, is not only the youngest nation but also
the smallest in the region. Positioned at the eastern edge of the Alps mountain
ranges and at the end of the northernmost sea linked to the Mediterranean,
it serves as a crossroads of routes linking eastern and western Europe as
well as the north and south of the region. Its geographical features have
contributed to the richness of nature that is regarded "the green jewel
of Europe." Because of this setting, Slovenian culture is both pastoral
and highly artistic. With establishment of the Society, we earnestly
hope that the Japan gain more opportunities to experience the arts and culture
of Slovenia and to kindle friendship with the sincere and warm people of
the country, for greater proximity not only in diplomacy but also in friendly
exchanges. |
